Please remember THIS IS NOT A RACE. We recognize that our “suggested routes” utilize popular multi-directional trails (i.e. Morning Gloria, Lower Lupine, Ricky’s, Bluffs Loop, etc.). If you are going to use these routes, understand that these will not be closed courses. Please be considerate of all trail users and exercise proper trail etiquette. This means yielding to the uphill-moving traveler and to any horses in all instances. Bikes should offer to yield to hikers/runners in both directions. Especially on a weekend, you can expect to see a lot of trail users, potentially travelling in the opposite direction. If possible, you may want to consider completing our virtual challenge early in the morning or on weekdays.
Also, please note that these are just “suggested routes” that have the proper lengths and elevation gains to match our challenges. The beauty of the virtual challenge is that you are able to choose any route you’d like. We understand that some people may want to compare their times in 2020 to previous years’ Steamboat Stinger courses. Our “suggested routes” for 2020 are loops that start/finish at the Stables Parking lot and match the mileage of the former Steamboat Stinger. However, they are not the exact same course. Again, the spirit of it being a virtual event where you can pick your own routes, we encourage you to challenge yourself to match or beat a time on a previous route you’ve done as long as you respect all other trail users! Or, choose any other route you’d prefer that mixes your favorite (or locally available) trails together.
OTHER OPTIONS ON EMERALD MOUNTAIN include doing our “suggested routes” in reverse. You could do just the front side in reverse. Or, if you’re a mountain biker, fell free to take Quarry Mountain and Little Moab down, and then utilize the downhill bike-only trail NPR (no foot traffic). If you do that, you will need to find other areas to add approximately 3 miles to your route in other places. As long as you get the right distances and elevation gains in a single ride/run, wherever it may be, you’ll meet our challenges.
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend established guidelines to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. These include social distancing and, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of large groups of people. These guidelines are for the safety of the public and should be followed. As a Participant, you acknowledges, and agrees that:
1. The risk to have contact with individuals, who have been exposed to and/or have been diagnosed with one or more communicable diseases, including but not limited to COVID-19 or other medical conditions, diseases, or maladies does exist, and it is impractical or impossible to eliminate the risk that I could be exposed to and/or become infected through contact with or close proximity with an individual with a communicable disease;
2. I KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS, both known and unknown, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASES or others, and assume all full responsibility for my participation. I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, HEREBY RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS THE EMERALD MOUNTAIN EPIC and PARTNERS ROUTT RIDERS LLC, their officers, officials, agents and/or employees, other participants, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of the premises used to conduct the event ("Releases"), WITH RESPECT TO ANY AND ALL INJURY, ILLNESS, DISABILITY, DEATH, or loss or damage to person or property, WHETHER ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASES OR OTHERWISE.
